This fabric is called "Handcuffs". Do you know the story behind it?
Musician’s and their songs are also important sources in the name-giving process. This is especially evident in the High –Life songs, where titles or phrases are often lifted as names for some cloths. An example is the cloth known both as: “Olympia” but more popularly is the name: “Aban Nkaba”- (detention chains/ Handcuffs). It was designed in connection with the Olympic Games in 1948. The following years it was sold in millions of yards, not because the people in Ghana desired to honor the Olympic Games, but because the rings to them symbolized a very popular song at the moment which in part read: “Don’t be to unhappy because I am in prison and walk with my hands tied. “ The song, very rebellious in tone, narrates the story of a man in chains, presumably on his way to prison, when the neighbor asks him whether there is peace in the house. The prisoner replies angrily, “if there is peace in the house, will I be in chains?” (Agovi 1989:197, Nielsen 1979: 493, Apenteng-Sackey 1988: 16-17,Hoogenboom, 2010:940)
