1004 Blocks

1004 Blocks’ or 1004 Flats. refers to a prison complex in Lagos, Nigeria, where many Igbos were incarcerated after the Biafra war.

This week (27/8/14) I discussed this name with six IGBO traders and they all assured that it has nothing to do with a prison or Biafra war! The 1004 block (appartments) were build in 1977 on Victoria Island (Lagos) for civil servants.
